Chinese currency is referred to as Yuan or RMB, just as we call Ghanaian currency cedis, the Chinese currency is called Yuan/ RMB.

SHIPPING Explained

📍There are 3 types of shipping
Air shipping, Sea shipping, Express 

•Air shipping takes 7 to 14 days
Faster but more expensive.

•Sea shipping is Cheaper but slow.


📍There are many shipping and logistics companies


You can also use procurement companies/agents to place your order
These agents will help you purchase and inspect before shipping to your
address. 


They also help you negotiate in cases where your capital is not up
to the minimum order quantity (MOQ)
They also give you more insight into Products.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FOR THE GOODS TO ARRIVE IN GHANA?

1. Sea Cargo: It takes 30 to 40 working days for the goods to arrive when you ship them by sea.

2. Air Cargo: It takes 2 weeks for the goods to arrive in Ghana when you ship them by air. But this is more expensive than Sea Cargo.

3. Express Air Cargo: This is much more expensive, but you get the goods in 2 to 5 days.

Sea shipping: This is the best option for very heavy goods because it makes it cheaper.

Sea shipping means shipping in containers by ship on the sea as against cargo or airfreight which is shipped by air or plane (the one most of us are used to).

Sea shipping is the best and sometimes the only option for heavy goods.



Types of Sea Shipping 

There are 2 options when you want to do sea shipping

1. Full Container Load (FCL): This is used when your goods can fill up a whole container. They have a flat rate which is charged per container whether the container is filled or not mostly $5000 per container.

This container is loaded by the supplier or manufacturer and then shipped by your shipping company to the port in Ghana( Tema)

Your bill of laden is issued by the official shipping line or freight forwarder and a few other documents depending on the shipping company.

2. LCL: Less than Container Load (LCL). This is also known as groupage shipping or consolidation.

This means you are sharing space and cost with other shippers like you in a container.

This helps to ship a lesser amount of cargo that is not enough to fill a whole container.

LCL is charged based on volume measured in Cubic meters (CBM). This is the volume your goods occupy inside the container.

This is cost-effective if you have a small shipment as you pay for just the space you use.
There are sizes of container
1. 20ft
2. 40ft

They both have different capacitiesweightsht and the maximum load they can take is about 28000kg.

The cubic meter is calculated by length x Width x Height which is what would be used to calculate the cost of shipping

All you need to do is contact logistics that does sea shipping and they give you the quote for FCL or LCL as the case may be.
They also handle every documentation so no need to worry about it.

So even if you sell one 50gh/4,000N

Let's do the calculations

50 × 8cds==400gh

Now You can sell one for 50gh

So 50pcs × 50gh ==2,400gh

So let's deduct 400gh from the 2,500gh we got and see the total profit.

2500--400==2,100gh

Let's say the shipping fee is 70

So let's deduct 2100 - 70
      =2030gh

So your total profit U will make from selling 50pcs of that shoe is 2,030gh🥰🥰

Waybill to your doorstep= = 100CEDIS.
Total Approximately= 4,900cedis



Let's say you sell each of those machines at the rate of 70 cedis it means 200*70 =14,000cedis

Now 14,000cedis - 4,900cedis
=9,100cedis as profit 🥰

HOW TO MAKE AN ORDER*

procurement company through their website or forward it to a
procurement company/agent


Remember to include the product details ie qty, colour size (shoes, shirts
etc) you want etc
Pay for the goods in Ghana Cedi or  Dollar or Paypal depending on the procurement company/agent you decide to use.
The agent will help you buy the goods and ship them to you (pay for
shipping when your products get to Ghana)

Mistakes to avoid as a beginner in Mini Importation

1. Poor Business Plan/Poor Product Choice:
This is just as important as mistake #1.
Just because you like the product and you think the price is right, don’t assume it will automatically sell. It is best to have an existing market/distribution system for similar or complementary items.

Your imported product should add to or enhance your existing product line. The second best is if you have taken samples and pre-sold the first shipment. The worst is if you are operating on instinct. Instinct rarely results in profit.



2. Failure to Figure In All of the Costs of Importing:
To begin with, you have to understand Incoterms. A client of mine wanted to make it relatively easy to figure out his costs, so he asked for a product quote from China on CIF Norfolk terms, thinking that would simplify his calculations. He was bringing in 40-foot container loads of product at a time, and he signed a contract to import a total of 20 containers. He carefully (or so he thought) added up all his other costs and was prepared to make a tidy profit.


3. Undercapitalization:
Importing requires a lot of cash upfront before any profit is realized. You must pay duties before taking possession of the goods, and in almost all cases, you have to pay all freight charges due. As a new importer, you probably are not going to get long payment terms from your suppliers, either. Therefore, you need to have an existing domestic business with sufficient assets and cash flow to sustain the initial phase of your business plan or have a lot of cash.

If you are in a situation where you plan to receive monthly shipments and anticipate turning your inventory every four to six weeks, you should have enough assets to finance the first six months of operation.


4. Getting quality products to sell:
Since you won't be travelling down there to see what you want to buy, how do you ascertain you are buying quality products and not running into a loss?

5. Getting scammed by agents or suppliers:

6. Getting a genuine shipping company to bring your goods down to Nigeria and your doorstep:
Some companies delay in bringing goods some have high shipping rates but you can get access to cheap and affordable shipping companies


7. Getting reliable suppliers and manufacturers to buy from at extremely cheap rates:
Some suppliers are acting as middlemen so the cost of buying from them might be high but when you have access to direct suppliers or even a manufacturing company, your profit would be massive.


8. How to sell what you imported:
This is the most important part of this business. it's only when you sell you can get back the money invested in your business, the majority are taught how to import but not how to sell and so they are stuck at home with the products they imported, if you don't want your case to be that way then you need to learn mini importation from someone who also teaches you how to sell it.

At this point, you should have already gone through the entire project of sourcing products, chatting and negotiating with suppliers, and making payment for the goods and your goods are to be sent to the warehouse of your shipping and logistics company.
