Which Sites can you Sell your eBooks on??
Sites to Help You Sell Ebooks
Selling ebooks needs a good and trustworthy platform. There are many publishing and distribution options, big and small. Choose the one that works for you.If your ebook is not in the file type your publisher or distributor asks for, there are plenty of free online converters. Additionally, if you have the content and want someone else to convert it to ebook format manually, you can find many people on Fiverr who offer this service.
1. Visme
Visme is an all-in-one design and content creation platform that lets you create, publish and share all kinds of visually engaging content — including ebooks.
You can easily create ebooks with the help of ready-made templates (with multiple, pre-designed pages), drag-and-drop design tools, free photos, the ability to add videos, links, audio and animation, and more. Share your ebooks online, or download them in PDF or HTML5 formats.
When you sell ebooks via Visme, you can create multimedia, interactive digital experiences viewable on both desktop and mobile. Plus, your readers can download a printable or digital PDF directly from the multimedia ebook.
You're also able to track the number of views on your ebooks when you share them via Visme. This is great for analyzing the performance of your content.
2. Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing
Amazon is one of the largest online platforms for selling digital ebooks. Publishing your ebook is one of the most popular ways to make money on Amazon, which can bring $1000+ a month.
The ebooks sold on Amazon are mainly for the Kindle reader, and they offer a tool to convert your manuscript, called Kindle Create. You can upload Microsoft Word files, EPUB and their signature Kindle file type, KPF.
3. Smashwords
Smashwords is an ebook publisher and distributor that offers lots of solutions for new and experienced ebook writers. You can upload a Word document or an EPUB file. They turn it into a digital ebook product and distribute it to all major ebook consumer platforms.
4. Rakuten Kobo
Rakuten Kobo is another ebook publisher and distributor offering to sell your ebooks on their site and many other distribution sites. To publish with Rakuten Kobo, simply follow the steps on the website. You can upload Microsoft Word and EPUB files, among others. They also offer solutions for selling audiobooks and even have their digital readers for sale.
5. Sellfy
Moving away from sites that concentrate on ebooks alone, there’s also Sellfy — a digital product marketplace where you can sell any digital product for download. You can sell directly from Sellfy or use the link on your website.
6. Payhip
Yet another digital download marketplace is Payhip. To sell an ebook on Payhip, it has to be ready as the file type of your choice. For a site like this, you’re better off selling your ebook as an EPUB. Sell with a Payhip link or add the link to a button on a landing page.
7. Gumroad
Finally, we have Gumroad — another online digital product marketplace where you can sell ebooks and other digital products. Selling on Gumroad is simple, but they don’t distribute your ebook anywhere else.
8. Draft2Digital
Draft2Digital is one of the best platforms to publish your eBook. They hit all the main stores like Amazon, iBooks, Barnes & Noble and Kobo.
Draft2Digital gives you an author’s page and book tabs, which you could use instead of making your website. On top of that, the handy sales tracker gives you insight into how well your books are selling.
The best thing about Draft2Digital is its automated formatting service. This turns your basic Word document into a smart, professional eBook for free.
In early 2022, Draft2Digital announced they were merging with their big competitor Smashwords (more on their platform below). Until the merger is complete, the platforms will continue to work under their name. For the time being, you can continue to use both platforms as usual.
9. Lulu
Lulu is an up-and-coming eBook aggregator site. It will distribute your eBook to all the major retailers (including Amazon).
However, unlike Draft2Digital, they won't help you out with formatting and your book has to pass their Quality Assurance test to be accepted. As such, unless you're confident in doing this yourself, you might be better off going elsewhere.
10. Barnes & Noble Press
Formerly Nook Press, this is the official Barnes & Noble eBook publishing site. They're a huge retailer in the US and have a big audience here in the UK too.
You'll make 70% off any eBook priced between $0.99 – $199.99. This means that you'll earn more distributing directly through B&N rather than via an aggregator site. That said, uploading your books to individual retailers is more hassle.
You'll benefit from all the extra promotion that comes with being on the B&N site (they have millions of customers). They also offer an easy-to-navigate dashboard so you can track sales.
